Since 1974, Susan May has been a singer and voice teacher for students of musical theater. She has also held such titles as performer, show director, choir director, organist and handbell director.
It didn’t all start there though. When Susan was in 6th grade a teacher recognized her singing voice and offered her a solo. In 7th grade she took private voice lessons and in no time Susan knew she wanted to be a music teacher.
So off to college she went to pursue her passion. Susan has a Master of Science in Music Education from Ithaca College in NY. Her bachelor degree in the same was from Mansfield University in PA.
She has performed with Merry Go Round Playhouse as a singer, in the chorus, and actor. Auburn Community Players as a singer and actor, and Auburn Memorial Hospital’s Palpitations as a singer. Susan specializes in the classics and in show music.
Though self employed most of her life, Susan was also employed as the vocal music teacher at Herman Ave. Elementary School and since retiring devotes her time to her audiences and her students.
It is important for Susan to give back to community. She and her students have performed numerous shows to benefit the Willard Chapel , Calvary Food Pantry, Central New York Food Bank, Morgan Opera House , and a variety of military Veterans groups.
